Genetic dissection of complex disease and variations of drug response has become one of the most important biomedical research topics in recent years. Non-Mendelian inheritance mode of complex disease suggests that genetic factors for common disease normally involve multiple genetic loci where each locus individually has a small and often undetectable effect but together will exert detectable effect.

As a result, methods that not only perform multi-locus analysis and gene-gene interaction analysis but also efficiently deal with caveats associated with the combinatorial nature of multi-locus analysis such as performance and multiple testing correction appear to hold the key for critical discovery.

High Throughput Biology Inc. has developed a powerful multi-locus analysis method, Pattern ExaminerTM, based on an efficient pattern discovery algorithm and on a formal statistical framework with full consideration of multiple testing corrections. In several case studies, this novel method has demonstrated the potential to identify multiple genetic factors simultaneously in complex disease and has demonstrated greater power in comparison to conventional methods.
